The Man-Child President
My last post was about how President Trump acts like royalty. This post is about how he may be our greatest man-child President.
Most children love parades. How is this relevant? Well, President Trump’s 79th birthday falls on the 250th anniversary of the U.S. Army. Normally, there is not much fanfare about Army birthdays. But the Army is thinking of having a big military parade in Washington D.C. on that day.
President Trumps likes the idea. He saw such a parade in Paris on Bastille Day 2017, and he was impressed with the horses and planes. He almost had such a parade during his first term but pulled back.
There are, however, problems with a parade. France is something of an outlier among democratic countries. Mostly dictators in autocratic countries like Russia and North Korea have showy parades. The parades symbolize military might, not democratic values. We don’t want to be on that list.
But the parades also highlight which countries have the biggest military “toys," even while their people are starving (North Korea). Size matters. And President Trump has actually used our "toys" against Yemen. But it would be ironic if Trump spent all sorts of money parading our big "toys," while claiming we must abolish USAID, reduce the CDC, and get rid of over 100,000 federal employees.
Like some children, President Trump is a sore loser. He still thinks he won the 2020 election and helped start a fight about it. Some kids love fights. He calls for the impeachment of almost all distinguished judges who rule against him. In addition, like many children, he has developed favorite types of entertainment. So he fired the whole Board of the Kennedy Center and replaced them with his playmates. Presumably, he will promote his favorite spectacles there. What fun.
President Trump also likes to watch fake wrestling and eat McDonalds, like many other kids.
Kids also often reject people. In Trump's world that's called deportation. And he gets angry at new kids of a different race. They apparently intimidate him and his MAGA gang.
Kids also like games. So Trump seemingly golfs more than being in the Oval Office. He "plays tag" with women. Given this record, I am sure we will have more chances to watch President Trump at play.
